HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A grand jury has declined to indict a former Harris County Precinct 7 sergeant accused of beating her adopted children with a belt.

Authorities say that Joceyln Ballard was immediately relieved of duty and placed on administrative leave back in February. She was later fired after an investigation, according to law enforcement.

Ballard has been with the department for 10 years of her 18-year career in law enforcement, where she was assigned to the training division.

Precinct 7 says that Ballard has appealed her firing.
